a pair of paintings depicting ancient ruins, watercolors and ink with gouache, on paper mounted on paperboard, one depicting a grand archway with figures in the forefront, partially faded signature at lower left, toning and foxing, 16.5x25in., the other depicting a coliseum and pyramid, appears unsigned, toning and minor foxing, 18x23.5in., each painting is in an inner frame, the outer frames are not attached (each outer frame has gesso damage), additional information (see scans) including Sotheby's correspondence Provenance: By direct family descent. Note: Family states that these paintings were once in the possession of Sotheby’s, however, to their knowledge were not sold.
