This woodblock printed book is from a book named 'Bijutsu Sekai' or 'The World of Art', and was published in 1890, the fist volume of 25. This series was designed by Watanabe Shotei, also known as Setei, and Tsukoika Yoshitoshi. The series contained woodblocks and artist paintings from Setei, Yoshitoshi, Taki Katei, Gyokuden Murase, Fuko Matsumoto, Kageo Mishima, Kimei Nakano, Beisen Kubota, Hakuryu Sugawara, Kampo Araki, and their contemporaries of the day. This first volume includes 24 pages, including the covers. There are several script pages at the front and back of the book with seven individual prints, and eleven diptychs between the text pages, in beautiful colors, with just a few in black and white.

Condition

This woodblock printed book is in excellent timeworn condition, with heavy wear to the covers, the back cover is separated. There are a number of handling marks, chips/tears to the edges, and some spotting/staining as shown in the photos. Overall, the images are beautiful, and the entire book has mica on the pages. This more-than-a-century-old book is a gem.
