Lot of 3 handmade box turkey calls: 1)"Hardy's Custom Calls" 6"L (8 3/4" paddle) x 1 1/2"W x 2"H. A beautifully constructed call featuring what appears to be poplar sides inserted into a single piece of cedar with a red cedar paddle. There are laser etchings of turkey over most of paddle surfaces, a gobbler laser etched on left side panel and a hen w/poults on right side panel. The call appears never used in the field and exhibits exceptional tone, different pitch on either side. 2) Wonderful walnut box call by unknown maker measuring 7"L (9" paddle) 1 1/8"W base x 2 1/8"H. Features include a 1 piece constructed walnut body that exhibits excellent tone, a 1 3/4" W paddle showing some figure in the grain and secured by a single Phillips head screw/spring. The body of this call was hand drilled with only light sanding to the inside surfaces. Tool marks still visible. Overall the call appears never used, no markings but a quality artwork. 3)Handmade 1 piece walnut body with hand hewn, very thick (3/8") paddle that appears to be unstained cherry or possibly ash. The entire call appears to have been "whittled" except the front of call that is rounded by hand sanding. The paddle and body do not match-up perfectly as if completed by a novice. With that said, this call exhibits exceptional and realistic tone that is commensurate with any of the finer tones in this auction! Call measures 9 1/4'L (10 3/4" paddle) x 1 1/2"W x 2 1/4"H. A true piece of Americana showing old varnished body that is now beginning to show some alligator effect from age. Call shows considerable in-use soiling, construction is solid. Simply, a great old call having been made, we estimate, 1st quarter of the 20th century. $100-200 (BRO-11107)
