Item Details
Description
Half plate daguerreotype. Oversized brass mat. Uncased. Etched at bottom:

"Captured in the Light." Signed in pencil on reverse "2/22/11" & "Casey Allen Waters."

Casey Allen Waters, born 1980, has collected antique daguerreotypes since he was seven years old. Casey first saw modern daguerreotypes being made by Robert Schlaer in the early 1990s and is now making his own plates after learning the process with instructions from Rob McElroy and suggestions from Mike Robinson. Casey processes his daguerreotypes using the original mercury method of the mid-19th century. He strives to find interesting images while working with the time constraints dictated by the chemical process. His first exhibition was hosted by Iocovozzi Fine Art in Savannah, Ga. in 2010. Subsequently his work has been shown in Ohio, Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York City. His plates are in many private collections as well as the Archive of Modern Conflict collection. Casey is the originator of a concept he calls "dagart" in which he utililizes discarded daguerreotypes with no monetary or aesthetic value, and etches and hand-colors them into new creations.
