Description
Half plate daguerreotype. Split case. Bright projecting man with facial tint. Velvet pad reads "Johnson & Fellows Cleveland."

Johnson & Fellows opened their gallery in Cleveland in 1851... Most complete assortment of daguerreotype stock west of Buffalo... They were also agents for various daguerreotype periodicals. In 1852 advertisements claimed that Johnson had 12 years experience. Their firm also gave instruction on art. 'Mr. Johnson is universally acknowledged as one of the most eminent artists in the United States.' (Source: Ohio Photographers 1839-1900, by Diane VanSkiver Gagel)
