Description
Southern Coin Silver Footed Cup, elaborately decorated paneled body, scroll handle, and feet, grapes, vines and floral repousse decoration. Monogrammed Ira. With hallmarks for retailer Hayden Brother & Co. (Charleston, South Carolina, working 1852-1855), pseudo hallmarks. Measures 4"x3"x4" tall. Weight 160 grams. Gale & Nathaniel Hayden, his brother, H. Sidney Hayden and William Gregg formed a co-partnership in 1838 under the firm named of Hayden, Gregg & Co. After about 1849, the silver produced from the firm was marked “Hayden Co.” and later “Hayden Brother & Co.” Research: South Carolina Silversmiths 1690-1860 by Milby Burton. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate.
