A NAPOLEON III ETCHED CRYSTAL AND BLACK LACQUER PARCEL GILT MAHOGANY TANTALUS LIQUEUR BOX, LAST HALF 19TH CENTURY, probably French, the incised molded caisson painted with scrolling tendrils and flower blooms, the lid and three sides fitted with wide beveled glazed panels, over a demilune floret carved molding, terminating in flat bun feet; the interior fitted with twelve matching cordials, two added cordials, and two added liqueurs, and two pairs of decanters, each decanter rim etched with a number: 164, 13, 92, 97, and one stopper has an etched mark, all fitted on a gilt bronze Greek revival stylized caddy and mounted to a rosewood veneered rectangular base. Height: 11 1/2" Width: 15 1/2" Depth: 11 1/2"

Some rubbing to the gilt decoration throughout, set assembled, some patina on the caddy, dust debris, lock not locking, possibly later added gilt decoration, but otherwise in very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
