Description
1654 Roman History Velleius Paterculus Carthage ROME Mythology Elzevier Vossius

Velleius Paterculus, also known simply as Velleius, was a 1st-century Roman historian known for his ‘Histories’ which deals primarily with the Trojan War, Greek mythology, Roman history including the death of Julius Caesar and the reign of Augustus Caesar. It also covers the destruction of Carthage and brief notices of Greek and Roman literature.

This rare Elzevier edition was edited by Gerardus Vossius, a Dutch scholar and historian. Vossius wrote his own commentary and extensive notes on the work. It includes a finely engraved title with the city of Troy burning in the background. An absolutely beautiful Elzevier printing of a classic historical work.
