Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed at $300**

West Africa, Niger River region, Burkina Faso, early 20th century CE. A fabulous cast iron rendering of a warthog (though lacking tusks) that conjures images of my favorite warthog of all time, Pumbaa from The Lion King - "Hakuna Matata" It means no worries, for the rest of your days! On a more serious note, the warthog or bushpig has traditionally been special to several African cultures. The Bwa, Mossi, and Nunuma perform warthog dances. In addition, warthog tail is used in amulets and medicines to treat male impotency - so inspired because these animals travel in single file with their tails erect - conjuring phallic connotations. Size: 7.75" L x 5.25" H (19.7 cm x 13.3 cm)

Provenance: collection of the late Peter Arnovick, San Francisco, California USA
