Pre-Columbian, southern Mexico and northern Central America, Mayan Territories, Late Classic, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A carved brownware jar with three long, horizontal feet and a carinated form with inward-sloping rim. Around the rim and the body are small, bulbous projections. Carved into the exterior are repeated pseudo-glyphs of mythological heads. Maya potters, sculptors, and artisans were able to skillfully render scenes of mythological import, reinforcing religious beliefs that often validated the power of the rulers who were patrons of such vessels. Size: 5.75" W x 5.75" H (14.6 cm x 14.6 cm)

Repaired from a few large pieces. Nicely preserved details. Small areas of encrustation, especially in lower profile areas, with root marks over some of the surface.
