Diego Rivera (Mexican; 1886-1957) 1939 Untitled Original Watercolor on Paper Professionally Framed W/COA - This stunningly rare piece is an original watercolor on paper painting by prominent Mexican muralist and painter, Diego Rivera. The piece is untitled, and was created in 1939. The painting depicts an indigenous woman carrying a basket, with a following dog. The piece is signed and dated 1939 in the upper right hand corner, and has been professionally framed in a wooden frame under non-glare plexiglass. The piece itself measures approx. 14" x 14", and the frame measures approx. 19" x 24" x 1". The painting will come with a certificate of authenticity from Bill Martin at the "Instituto De Investigaciones Esteticas" of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Bill Martin is an independent art appraiser, and Godson of Rufino Tamayo. Diego Rivera was a prominent Mexican painter, whose large frescoes helped establish the Mexican mural movement in Mexican art. Between 1922 and 1953, Rivera painted murals among others in Mexico City, Chapingo, Cuernavaca, San Francisco, Detroit, and New York City. With his socially and politically expansive artistic vision, narrative focus, and use of symbolic imagery, Rivera inspired such diverse artists as Ben Shahn, Thomas Hart Benton, and Jackson Pollock.
