Description
Continental School, 19th century. A portrait in the style of the Dutch Golden Age, recalling such artists as Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) and Govert Flinck (1615-1660), depicting a stately gentleman at bust length wearing red velvet cap, heavy gold chain, and black robe, the sitter holding a serene expression to his face skillfully rendered in chiaroscuro. Verso with label of a California fine arts conservator, G. Theodore Nightwine. Framed approximately 30.25" x 26.25", sight size approximately 19.25" x 15.25".
