Description
Very rare original press copy of President John F. Kennedy's State of the Union Address that was delivered before a joint session of Congress in Washington, D.C. in January of 1963. The upper left-hand corner of the 11 page 14 x 8.5'' document reads "Release at 12:30 P.M, Monday, January 14, 1963, To All Newspapers, Radio and Television Stations." There is some age toning and a small rip in the bottom center of the last page, but otherwise the document is in good condition. There are no other original copies of this State of the Union address known to exist.
In January 1963, the House and Senate gathered in the House Chamber to hear President John F. Kennedy's annual address. Kennedy's third and final state of the union speech calls for American citizens to welcome "the winds of change."
In his speech, the President discusses his plans to strengthen the economy through tax reform and the need for Congress to respond to certain national matters, including healthcare, education, civil liberties, and resource management. He also addresses how the Sino-Soviet split, the ascendancy of developing nations, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will help curtail the spread and strength of communism.
In efforts to find additional original press release copies of this speech, we have determined that this is one of a very limited number of remaining copies in existence.
These items come directly from the Hirschy family.
