1963 leopard skin pillbox hat made personally for Mary Gallagher by the designer Adolfo, who made hats for Jacqueline Kennedy while she was First Lady. Includes hat with original packaging and correspondence. The hat measures 6.5'' in diameter is lined in black and has two small combs attached on the interior on either side to keep it in place. A white label with black lettering reads "Adolfo - Paris New York" and is sewn into the interior. The hat box is round with a diameter of 9''.

Adolfo (Sardina), known by his first name only, was a famous Cuban-American designer who opened a millinery salon in New York City in 1963. He eventually moved to designing clothes and his clients throughout his career included Nancy Reagan, Gloria Vanderbilt, and the Duchess of Windsor. Jacqueline Kennedy's distinctive hats, most notably her elegant pillbox hats, were made by the designer. This hat, in using leopard skin, mirrored a fashion trend of the time - Jacqueline Kennedy's famous and iconic leopard skin coat created a craze for leopard that lasted throught the 60s.
