Description
Circa 1775 with polychrome painted steel dial with Roman numerals, phase of the moon in lunette, four ladies representing the four seasons in spandrels, signed above lunette Jos. Gallimore, Manchester. Brass weight driven English bell strike movement with original weights and pendulum. Case in mixed hardwoods (oak & mahogany)with inlay. Bonnet with broken arch topped pediment with stamped brass rosette terminals with thistles, brass final with eagle in flight and square plinths, over cross banded front with ebony and satinwood inlay, tombstone door in oak with mahogany cross banding and period brass pull, flanked by full reeded columns with cast brass Corinthian capitals and Ionic plinths. Waist with overlapping door with thumb molded edge in oak with mahogany cross banding and inlaid pointed oval in center with seashell, flanked by full reeded columns with matching brass capitals and plinths as bonnet, cove molding above and below. Base in oak with inlaid geometric designs in mahogany with chamfered corners with lambs tongue terminal at bottom in mahogany veneer, over fine ogee bracket feet, all in original varnish finish, pine secondary wood, 22 x 10 1/4 x 94" high.
