Item Details
Description
Set of four pieces 20th Century Chinese porcelain paintings, each in rectangular plaque, hand painted in Qianjiang decoration on porcelain, literally "light umber" where the landscapes are outlined with ink and complemented by strokes of pale umber to designate the lit areas of the landscape. Qianjiang enamels was applied directly on the white glazed porcelain surface, giving the decoration the appearance of watercolor painting on silk or paper. Depicted with delicate ink tones and textured rendering of misty mountain transformed the monumental landscape imagery of the nature. Pavilion house shown form part of forest scenery, bordered by trees, shaded and half concealed by a grove. Appearing a subtle expression; immeasurable distances were conveyed through the use of blurred outlines, mountain contours disappearing into the mist, and impressionistic treatment of natural phenomena. Emphasis was placed on the spiritual qualities of the painting and on the ability of the artist to reveal the inner harmony of man and nature, as perceived according to Taoist and Buddhist concepts. Encircled by this energized mountainscape, the retreat becomes a reservoir of calm at the vortex of a world whose dynamic configurations embody nature's creative potential. With mountains (Shan) and waters (Shui) in a particular color scheme: ink for mass, tree trunks and areas in the shade, and a reddish brown for foliage, water and elements in the light. Eventually when the style got popular and more artist adopted the idea of copying traditional paintings onto porcelain, the decorations fetched their inspiration from more styles than qianjiang however the name has been kept to encompass all styles. Each, showing themed calligraphy inscriptions, signed and dated by artist, followed by artist's iron-red signature seals. Wooden framed, in floral motif cartouche.

Dimensions (Each): 32" H x 11-1/2" W
