Chinese very large famille rose tea cup with handle that is so large, it’s more of a bowl. The hand painted scenes are elaborate and colorful.
One side of the cup has a garden scene and the opposite side is a scene with birds and flowers, hand-painted in green, yellow, blue, orange, and of course rose over glaze enamels. Black has been used to outline and accent. Gold has been used throughout the paintings to add richness. The inside of the mouth edge has a gold floral band. The painting is minute and expertly done. The enamels feel smooth and look shiny. The porcelain has an off white tone. The cup has a raised foot with an unglazed edge.
MEASUREMENTS 5 1/8†(13.0 cm) long x 4 ½†(11.4 cm) diameter x 2 7/8†(7.3 cm) tall. Weighs 8 oz (225 g)
CONDITION There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The cup rings like a bell. The enamels are fresh and bright. The handle has some wear to the gold.
