A Chinese porcelain vase with a classic Kangxi shape and a thin, shiny turquoise glaze.
The globular body of the vase has four panels, each with a different simple design of a flower; a lotus, peony, cherry blossom, and chrysanthemum. Each was painted in a cobalt under glaze. Small raised dots are on the lower neck above the body, along with a rib on the neck. The long neck has a plantain leaf design painted in cobalt blue. The mouth has a flat rounded edge. The vase was then covered with a thin runny turquoise glaze, which lets the cobalt painting underneath show through. The glaze has pooled in spots like on the neck and has left areas thinner in others. The glaze has a nice shiny, smooth, cold feel. The vase has a nice heft to it.
The glaze was not well controlled and bled on to the raised foot ring and had to be chipped away in order to release it from the kiln. The vase was potted by hand and you can see the potter’s wheel rings on the base of the vase. The unglazed base has the red hue from the firing.

CONDITION
There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. As noted, some of the glaze on the base was chipped away to remove it from the kiln during manufacture due to the runny glaze used. There are kiln flaws in the glaze such as light and dark specs.
An elegant, colorful, well potted vase with a subtle expert painting of flowers. The rich turquoise color will show off well in a room, adding a spark of color.
