Hand potted and hand painted heavy Chinese bowl with a wide band design of an archaic pattern that shows what looks like bird heads.
The porcelain bowl has been decorated with several bands. The top and bottom bands are a series of triangles. The second band is a narrow band of repeating diamond shapes. The largest band is an archaic, florid pattern. The cobalt underglaze is a nice rich deep blue with no purple cast. There are even small cobalt explosions. The glaze used is a nice thick, smooth glaze with a shine to it. The bowl has a shallow mouth lip that is glazed, with the glaze from the mouth extending a couple of inches into the interior of the bowl. The bowl has a slight foot that is glazed. The base is not glazed except for a small glazed circle in the center. The bowl is heavy and thickly potted. Potter’s wheel marks show on the unglazed interior and on the base. There are a couple of painted characters on the base of the bowl.
MEASUREMENTS 7 7/8†diameter x 3 7/8†tall. Weight 1 lb 14.1 oz (860 g)
CONDITION There are wear marks in the form of little lines on the unglazed interior. The glazed surfaces have small, barely visible wear scratches and kiln flaws such as black dots, blue smudges, and glaze pins holes. The bowl has no chips, breaks, or cracks. It looks complete and shiny for the age.
A decorative object to display shells, potpourri, or whatever. It has something old, something, borrowed and something blue. Handmade and hand painted. A great old piece.
