Description
A Greek style composition of the famed faience Minoan snake goddess, H: 11 1/8 in (28.3cm). The original resides in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum in Greece and was found in the temple repositories of Knossos by archaeologist Arthur Evans. This sculpture depicts a snake goddess: a young woman in typical Minoan dress, with her breasts exposed below a necklace and holding snakes in both of her hands. On her head sits a miniaturized feline, probably a panther. The underside contains a University Museum, Philadelphia label.
