Description
Silk with multi-colored silk & gold brocade threads. China, late Qing Dynasty

This lot comprises a total of eight neatly embroidered sleeve bands, building four matching pairs. One pair shows a seal and inscriptions on the back and features the popular theme of the eight Chinese immortals – the Baxian with each figure in a separate cartouche. The black background pair shows dense embroidery with insects, fruits and ritual vessels. The others depict people in picturesque landscapes.

Shape: Rectangular, vertical sleeve bands
Dimensions: Largest in group: 15 x 100 cm; smallest in group: 10 x 90 cm
Condition: Some discoloration and stains at the margins, smaller tears or holes and few loose threads
Provenance: Austrian private collection
