Description
A Roman glass pendant bead with Telesphoros, c. 1st - 3rd Century AD, who stands wearing robe and characteristic cowl over his head, the Greek inscription XEWN to right. Also included is a Near Eastern etched carnelian bead. Telesphoros was the sister of Hygieia (personification of health), both the off-spring of Asklepios the god of medicine. He symbolized recovery from illness. This glass pendant appears to be a token worn in hopes of better health. Well-preserved with light iridescence nd deposits. Wiltshire, UK private collection.
