ENGLISH PATE-SUR-PATE PORCELAIN FLASK VASES BY E. STEELE, C.1870, PAIR, H 8 1/2", W 6 3/4"Each of flask shape, flanked by angular handles and raised on four splay feet, decorated in white slip on a medium brown ground with birds in natural settings, butterflies and branches on the reverse, gilt accents. Both are signed "E. Steele" (see additional photos), possibly for Edwin Steele (c. 1805-1871), active mid 19th century, who worked for Rockingham, Mintons and other Staffordshire potteries.
Condition
A few faint scratches noted to each, also light gilt losses to some areas. One vase with two restored feet and one foot has a tiny chip to the tip. Ad/TW 9-7-17
