Description
Chester W. Nimitz (1885-1966) Admiral. Nimitz served in World War I as chief of staff to the commander of the U.S. Atlantic submarine force. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Nimitz was elevated to commander in chief of the Pacific Fleet. In 1944, he was promoted to fleet admiral. After WWII, he served as chief of naval operation. 8” x 10 ½” typed letter signed, personal stationery, November 30, 1962, to Peter Eisner. “…the hardest decision I had to make during World War II, all the decisions that sent men into battle were equally hard….” The letter has been archivally encapsulated.
