Description
New World, South America, ca. early 20th century CE. A stunning silver bowl on a raised foot with a separately cast hinged handle that is fitted with a suspension loop at the top. Most impressive is the extensive decoration. Every surface is covered with the attractive floral and foliage theme achieved via fine repousse and chasing. Even the underside of the base presents a large petaled blossom. This piece was most likely based on an 18th century design and handsomely crafted by Aymara speaking silversmiths using the same chaise and repousse techniques practiced a thousand years ago by their Huari, Tiwanakan, and Incan ancestors. Size: 4.75" in diameter x 5.625" H including handle (12.1 cm x 14.3 cm); weight: 159.5 grams
