Description
Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Gran Cocle culture, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A wide-bodied, low vessel with a corseted neck and a flared, narrow rim. The body is painted with a geometric framework, using bold and colorful brushstrokes in red, black, and the rarer purple. To the ancient Panamanians, geometric design elements such as these were imbued with powerful symbolism, although their meaning is no longer known. Size: 4.4" W x 3.2" H (11.2 cm x 8.1 cm)
