HERB TROWBRIDGE, SIOUX / PLAINS INDIAN CARVED ANTLER HIDE SCRAPER, titled "Hide Scraper", carved moose antler, trimmed with brain-tanned deer skin, porcupine quill wrapping to grip, with deer dew-claw and horse hair tassels, signed under scraper end "HERB '93"; resting on a natural-form polished cedar stand, with brass plaque lettered "HIDE SCRAPER / BY HERB". With artist's publication describing the piece, signed by the artist, and a deer skin bag for transporting the piece. Herb Trowbridge, Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux. 1993. 18 7/8" LOA, stand 20 1/2" L.

Catalogue Note: Herb Trowbridge, an enrolled member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe, South Dakota, is a gifted artisan with many awards and recognitions to his name. Although he had no formal art training, his work has won first place in several juried competitions and exhibitions, including at the 1994 Eiteljorg Indian Market, and the 1992 Oklahoma Indian Summer Festival. His work has been exhibited at the Institute for American Indian Studies, Washington, CT.
