Description
1721 1st ed Thomas Gordon Case of Private Corruption South Sea Bubble Act TRADE
This 1721 pamphlet was an attempt to put the fraudulent financial difficulties of the South Sea Company into perspective for British readers. The Bubble Act of 1720 was funded and promoted by the South Sea Company and it forbade the creation of joint-stock companies with a royal charter. The South Sea Company was making huge profits on trade. Even though the profits were high on most imports, slave trade, while very common, was not a high money maker. The Bubble Act looked to cease insider trading as well as put limits on many trades and gains.
