Featuring a map of the company's Texas land holdings, as well as the original signatures of the three trustees of the Texas Land Company, Anthony Day and George Curtis of New York and William Summer of Boston, as well as the signature of company Secretary W.H. Willson. This rare land certificate is not signed over to a purchaser.

The Galveston Bay & Texas Land Company was founded in New York for the purpose of colonizing the lands previously granted to empresarios Lorenzo de Zavala, Joseph Vehlein, and David G. Burnet. The more than three million acres in East Texas which comprised the holdings of the Galveston Bay & Texas Land Company were not actually sold to the purchasers, however, rather the scrip allowed the purchaser to move into their allotted area where in turn they would have to complete all requirements of the Mexican government to obtain title to the land. Complicating matters further, the Law of April 6, 1830, which was passed by the Mexican government in an effort to stem the tide of immigration from the United States into Texas, prohibited further settlement in Texas by Americans. Thus, the scrips issued by the Galveston Bay & Texas Land Company in New York after its founding in October 1830 were in fact worthless in Texas, where colonists could not get land or title upon their arrival.
