Rare. No. 172, issued to DH Klaener for 5 shares on August 2nd, 1854 in Houston. Signed by Henry F. Fisher, agent. Not cancelled. 11.25 x 9.5" Folds, tear on right border. The bottom of the stock has a Memorandum which reads: "The joint stock of the Texas and German Emigration Company consists in the lands and tenements, right, interests and property vested, conveyed, put in, assigned and transferred by the German Emigration Company to the Texas and German Emigration Company, as per Indenture of September 15th, 1853, to-wit: 1st.--All their right and claim to about 1,200,000 acres of land in Fisher & Miller's Colony Grant. 2nd--All their right and title to their private property in and about New Braunfels, Fredericksburg, Indianola, and lands and tenements elsewhere in the state of Texas." Beginning in the 1840s, a wave of social unrest in Germany began a flood of immigration to Texas. Henry Francis Fisher was a key part in the Fisher[x=#8211/]Miller Land Grant, which was an early colonization effort of the Republic of Texas. Miller and Fisher sold their 1842 land grant to the Adelsverein on June 22, 1844.
