Description
A Son at the Front, Edith Wharton
This is the first state (lips p. 244) of the first edition of Edith Wharton's first world war novel, "A Son the the Front" (426 pages), published by Scribner's in September, 1923. The cover, red cloth background with gold lettering and border to the front, dark lettering to the spine, has scuffs but no prominent stains. The outside corners have shallow bumps, and the spine ends are curled, but there are no tears. The spine is straight and securely attached. The inside is very good, with only one extraneous element, a bookplate from the library of Edward Ditmars Wetmore, on the front inside cover. There are no other attachments, nor is there any writing. The top edges, gilt, are dulled but in otherwise good condition. The page faces are clean throughout the book, with no stains or scuffs. All the text is clean and unfaded. The binding is tight, with no loose or missing pages. There are no page tears and no notable creases.
Please note that this lot has a confidential reserve. When you leave a bid in advance of the auction, submit your maximum. Jasper52 will bid on your behalf as much as necessary to ensure that you meet the reserve price or that you remain in the lead, up to your maximum. The bidder who has submitted the highest bid wins the lot, provided the bid exceeds the reserve price.
