Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, Panama, Cocle, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. A hand-built and modeled maternity figure of a characteristically abstract form, seated with outspread legs and hands placed on knees. Her facial details, striated coiffure, and tattoos/body paint markings are beautifully detailed in black and red pigment on a beige ground. Most interesting are the designs highlighting her abdominal/womb area just below her perky breasts - emphasizing her fertility. Perforated through neck for suspension and/or attachment. Size: 2.625" W x 3.375" H (6.7 cm x 8.6 cm)
