Composition includes a three central figures with arms raised towards the sky taking the Rutlischwur - the oath of the Old Swiss Confederacy at Rutli, a mountain meadow on Lake Lucerne in Switzerland. Painting is signed lower left "W. Meyer".

Poor Condition; painting has extensive craquelure, multiple tears in canvas, three large patches on back, retouching, deteriorating edges, a couple punctures, and overall yellowed canvas consistent with age.
