Description
After Carl Rahl (Austrian 1812-1865). "Der Schwur der Männer im Rutli" ("The Oath of the Men in the Rutli"). Signed: W. Meyer. Oil on canvas, c. Late 19th C. 29 1/4" x 39". Composition includes a three central figures with arms raised towards the sky taking the Rutlischwur - the oath of the Old Swiss Confederacy at Rutli, a mountain meadow on Lake Lucerne in Switzerland. Painting is signed lower left "W. Meyer".
Condition
Poor Condition; painting has extensive craquelure, multiple tears in canvas, three large patches on back, retouching, deteriorating edges, a couple punctures, and overall yellowed canvas consistent with age.
