Description
**Originally Listed at $300**
Near East, probably Iran, Islamic world, ca. 10th to 12th century CE. A pretty bowl made from pale beige fired clay and coated in its interior with a thick green glaze. In places, the glaze has pooled to create a turquoise color; in other places it is almost translucent and yellowish tones are more visible. The edges of the bowl's rim are pinched at regular intervals. Heavily glazed bowls from the medieval Islamic period seem to have been inspired by Chinese ceramics, which people in the Near East would have seen arriving from caravans on the Silk Road. Size: 6.4" W x 2.5" H (16.3 cm x 6.4 cm)
Provenance: private New Jersey USA collection, acquired over twenty years ago
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
