Description
Edwin Munot Dawes, American, 1872-1945, California, Nevada, Minnesota, Iowa Rural landscape and urban views “Lake Tahoe” Signed lower left Bordering California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is in the Sierra Nevada. It is the second deepest lake in the United States. For Dawe’s depiction of the lake, he utilized short, staccato strokes of vibrant paint hues. The painting exhibits intense strokes of colors that texturize the surface of the painting, mirroring the beautiful ruggedness one experiences in nature. The painting is especially vivid in person, with specks of contrasting colors peeking from below in an Impressionist manner. Dawes likely painted this artwork while he owned a mining company by 1918 in Lovelock, Nevada, two hours Northeast of the lake. Earlier on, Dawes adopted painting as a career after visiting the Walker Gallery (Walker Art Center) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He painted throughout his lifetime and returned to the profession full-time later in life as well.Dimensions: 12 x 16 in., 15.5 x 19.5 in. frameArtist or Maker: Edwin Munot DawesMedium: Oil on panel
