Historically Significant and Probably Unique Set of Photographs taken on the Yacht 'Atlantic' in the Great Ocean Race of 1905, with handwritten captions on the back that include "The start, May 16, 1905"; "Start of German Regatta"; "Start"; "Count Tietzen's Ex-Navahoe"; "Harbor race week"; "Endymion touring down to the hook in a gale 50 mile an hour"; "Hamburg"; "Start of German Regatta" and "German 36 Rater". All the silver bromide photos are archivally mounted in new window mat, under glass, with black panel frame. 3 1/4" square images, OS: 19 3/8" x 19 1/4". Fine condition. The yacht 'Atlantic' was designed by William Gardner and built by Townsend & Downey at Shooter Island, New York. She was launched in 1903. 'Atlantic' was owned by Rear Commodore Wilson Marshall of the Larchmont Yacht Club. She was 189 feet overall, 29 feet in beam and 15 feet in draft. She won this race, completing the run in 12 days, 4 hours and 1 minute. This record was not broken until 1980 unofficially and 2005 officially.
