Description
**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, ca. 600 to 1200 CE. A lovely pair of hand-built earthenware vessels from the ancients of Costa Rica. First, a bichrome terracotta globular jar with a flared rim and six applied zoomorphs - perhaps fish and birds - adorning the shoulder beneath a painted red fretted pattern, the rim and lower section also painted in red slip. Accompanying this piece is a round-bottomed vessel with a jagged lower border beneath the wide register which is incised with textile-inspired decorative panels. Lucite ring in photo not included. Size: Vessel with zoomorphs measures 7.25" W x 5" H (18.4 cm x 12.7 cm)

Zoomorph decorated vessel repaired from multiple pieces. Incised vessel with losses to rim, upper wall, jagged ridge, and lower section as shown. Both with expected surface wear commensurate with age.
