Description
Circa 1860s stick cane in original surface with bark remaining attached to stick. Housed inside top of handle is a hand forged "sticker" which ejects by force of gravity and locks into place when the user grasps opposite end of cane and slings downward. To return point inside cane, user squeezes hand forged spring at base of metal point and pushes inward. The metal tip and handle cap are made with the precision of a metal smith and the screw slot is off-center suggesting a hand-made screw. A very unassuming cane found in the Toledo Ohio area and appropriate for the attire of a common or rural user. It's common appearance makes one wonder about the owner's need for such protection. 35-3/4" length X 1" diameter at top. Date: 1865
