Painting By Jean Raffy Le Persan "Reveries Ii":
Jean Raffy le Persan was a French artist born in 1920 in Paris, whose paintings of landscapes carry a dreamy, melancholic atmosphere. He was known for his landscapes, cityscapes, and snow scenes. He painted many miniatures and illustrated the Koran, the artist died in 2008. A Symbolist oil on board, in magnificent heavily carved gilt wood French frame. Signed upper left. This moonlit landscape scene illustrates an allegory of an old man being visited by five angels. A family of deer can be seen in the distance, and a pair of songbirds perch in a tree overhead. One of the angels can be seen flying toward him in the sky. There are some impasto areas of paint and the figures are reminiscent of French miniatures.
