Near East, Persia (Iran), Nishapur, ca. late 10th century to early 13th century CE. A beautiful glazed cup or bowl, probably made for holding salt or some other small condiment at the table. The pottery is a coarse, pale brown, and the glaze a bright, sea-on-a-sunny-day blue. In some places, the glaze has attained a silvery iridescence. The glaze has pooled in the base of the bowl, making the color inside of it a deeper blue. The glaze extends around the body's exterior to just above its diminutive foot. Repaired from two pieces, but repair is well done and difficult to see. Small loss to glaze on interior along crack line. Fine craquelure on glaze surface.
