Description
Burmese (Mandalay), 19th century. Pair of matching ornate and detailed figural motif betal boxes in the form of a Hinta (sacred goose; also known as Hamsa), each composed of shaped wood adorned with foil backed glass and colored glass round cabochons. Bird with separable top and bottom with red lacquered interior for storage. Each goose with pierced and shaped wings, curved beak and triangular webbed feet. Each approximate height 9.9", width 7.5", depth 9.9". Note: A similar pair of hintha boxes are located flanking a Burmese Buddhist shrine at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, England.
