Title: Collection of 7 uncommon Chinese political propaganda posters with Cultural Revolution art
Place Published:
Publisher:
Date Published: Ca. 1966-1976
Description:
All approximately 20 x 30" (Please see another listing in this sale of 20 Chinese Cultural Revolution posters on Chairman Mao Zedong themes)
The most curious is a lampoon of Confucius' "Great Brain", a 1974 drawing by the "Central Art College Fighting Group". One of based on the famous "Red Lantern" revolutionary opera, one on lyrics from the "Internationale" (once taught to every Chinese school child) and one on Mao's famous aphorism that "Power comes from the Barrel of a Gun." Least political is a colorful montage of the Shanghai "Great World" Mall. In the political irony category is one with an anti-American post-Korean War theme ("American Invaders Must Be Defeated"), while another, following the Sino-Soviet split is captioned "Crush the Russian Dogs."
