He commented that 'it is my intention, with your permission, to briefly review our subject in connection with science, and with the community' (p. [3]). Bigelow goes on to discuss the broad principles of surgery, the importance of clinical instruction, operative surgery, malpractice, and quackery." Heirs of Hippocrates 1860.
