Item Details
Description
Asia, Japan, ca. early 20th century CE. A signed scroll, with an ink on paper drawing of a fierce dragon, portrayed in his serpentine, classically Japanese style, his head set in the center of the image, moving menacingly towards the viewer. The watercolor-like ink pairs well with the dragon, considered a water deity in Japanese lore. A red stamp - the signature - and a line of kanji is painted on the lower right side of the drawing. The drawing itself is within a red and gold silk border, which is set onto the heavy paper of the scroll. Size of painting: 15" W x 38.25" H (38.1 cm x 97.2 cm); size of scroll: 18" W x 70" H (45.7 cm x 177.8 cm)
