Alexander Calder was an American sculptor known as the originator of the mobile, a type of moving sculpture made with delicately balanced or suspended shapes that move in response to touch or air currents. His popular style before this distinct abstract mobiles consisted of more figural, wire-like drawings. He was greatly influced by Mondrian after meeting him, and his works often display Mondrian's focus on primary colors.
