Description
This is the Simon and Schuster 1950 publication of a collection of stories Hughes first wrote for "The Chicago Defender", gathered in this hardcover edition as "Simple Speaks His Mind" (231 pages). This was the copy of the authors Eric and Mary Josephson, whose names are written to the front end page. There is no other writing, nor are there any stamps. This copy has been in storage, and is musty, but there are no mildew or mold indications. The dust jacket is sunned, scuffed and edge-worn. The price has been clipped. The cover, light blue cloth with black facsimile signature to the front, black author and publisher text on the spine, gold title lettering in a black background, also on the spine, is in good overall condition, with bumps to the outside corners and shallow end wear at the spine, but clean and unfaded. The inside is in good condition, with lightly sunned inside cover spreads, and with sunning to most page borders, but with no other notable stains. The pages are clean, with all text unfaded and clearly legible. The binding is secure, with no loose or missing pages. There are no page tears or creases.
