Description
Japanese, probably 17th century. A lacquered wooden hibachi or brazier of drum shape with carved band at center, the interior with copper liner, the exterior decorated with figures in three separate scenes rendered in blues and reds on a black ground, each scene with small calligraphy panel; ht. 8.25, dia. 12.5 in.

General wear particularly at high areas, two cracks extending from lip on opposite sides of body, large chip from lip on interior, corrosion to metal, what appears to be a museum inventory number on bottom.
