Description
"The Vine of Eyes". Unsigned. Oil on canvas with hand-painted resin frame by the artist. Canvas measuring 59" x 50". Overall 68 ½" x 59". (Cond: good) (4000/6000) This piece was used as the cover of Duval-Carrie's catalog for his New York University Retrospective. Edouard Duval Carrié is a contemporary Haitian artist who was born in 1954, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; and currently lives and works in Miami, Florida. He was educated at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts, in Paris, France; and at the University of Loyola Montreal, in Quebec, Canada. Duval Carrié portrays a “Marvelous Reality”, as Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier defined it in the prologue for his book The Kingdom of this World, a story about Haiti that has been a strong influence on the artist. He brings into his work the nearly fantastic world of his country, in images that could be seen as illustrations of myths and legends.
