Description
New World, Native American, Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, ca. mid 20th century CE. An incredibly charming pottery figure of a bear with much of the body painted a matte black aside from a large bear claw on the back, which is buff pottery marked with tightly incised lines. Round turquoise beads form the eyes and a larger one is in the center of the claw on the back. The figure is signed "Eloy Naranjo Santa Clara Pueblo". Size: 4.1" L x 2.6" W x 3.4" H (10.4 cm x 6.6 cm x 8.6 cm)
Provenance: acquired directly from the maker in the Pueblo in the 1990s
