Description
Chinese Longquan celadon charger with central carved lotus blossom, carved scrolling foliate designs to the sides and scalloped rim. Underside with lobed body and burnt orange unglazed center. 10 1/4" dia. Ming Dynasty. Provenance: East Tennessee collection, by descent from Edwin V. Hill, M.D., deceased 1969. Dr. Hill was a faculty member of Tufts and Harvard Medical Schools and served as a Colonel in the U.S. Army. He collected Asian arts during his military tour in the Far East theatre, including China and Japan, prior to 1964. (Additional high-resolution photos are available at www.caseantiques.com)
